Ritten railway

The locals take pride in the fact that the only remaining train in Europe from the Belle Époque connects the summer retreats of Maria Himmelfahrt, Oberbozen and Klobenstein.

The Ritten railway opened for service on 13th August 1907, at that time connecting the main square of Bozen, the Waltherplatz with Klobenstein, making Ritten easily accessible for tourism.

1966 brought further changes.The rack railway gave way to a cable car between Bozen and Oberbozen. Many people now use the cable car or road to commute to and from Bozen.
